New Dates and additional casting for Rarely Performed Shakespeare
(Part Time, Profit share)
Dates & Location: London; Evenings and Weekends 23rd September - 6th November 2022
A very rare chance to perform Shakespeare's darkest comedy ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL in conjunction with a family show, FOLK TALES OF THE UKRAINE, celebrating the myths and legends of a happier time.
WHY IS IT PROFITSHARE? IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?
To encourage people to take a chance on theatre and to keep the art form relevant and alive to the widest possible audience tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis and are free to anyone accessing food banks and subsidised school meals. As a result, the project can never stack up commercially and cover guaranteed wages so we schedule rehearsals around everyone’s daytime survival jobs and offer an equal share in an unlikely profit to all involved.
A company of 6 to 8 actors will perform contrasting roles in both halves of the evening and we are committed to providing our volunteer cast with a fulfilling, creative experience scheduled to enable everyone to maintain their long-term employment elsewhere, during the day.
ABOUT THE SHOWS
In Shakespeare’s story, a young woman nurses a king back to life and as a reward may pick a husband from the most eligible men in court. Unfortunately, her intended has other ideas and there’s a ruthless, sexual, battle of wits to be won before anyone can expect a happy ending.
This streamlined edit of ALLS WELL will be the second half of the double bill, preceded by a 1 Act family show FOLK TALES OF THE UKRAINE dramatizing the rich myths and legends, still deeply rooted in national identity. Conceived for both the refugee families in our community during half term week and anyone of any age who wishes to discover the magical beasts, endlessly resourceful peasants and troublesome vampires of Ukrainian Folklore.
ROLES
Name: Bertram
Type: Lead Role
Playing Age: 18- 30
Gender: Male
Ethnicities: NaN
Payment: No
Details: If All's Well That Ends Well is Shakespeare's sick twist on the classic fairy tale, then Bertram is Shakespeare's twist on Prince Charming. Sure, he's the man of Helen's dreams (he's rich, handsome, has lots of friends, and he's obviously a great soldier). Still, most audiences and literary critics think he's also kind of a jerk.
Name: Paroles
Type: Lead Role
Playing Age: 25- 60
Gender: Male
Ethnicities: NaN#
Payment: No
Details: Paroles is Bertram's BFF / wingman until a group of guys trick him into revealing that he's a coward and a liar, that is. He's raunchy, arrogant, sexist, and all-around revolting. Paroles is all talk and no action, which is probably why Shakespeare named him after a French term (parole) that means "words" or "speech."
Name: The Widow of Florence
Type: Supporting Role
Playing Age: 40- 60
Gender: Female
Ethnicities: NaN#
Payment: No
Details: A Feisty, straight-talking matriarch and hostess who organises "the bed trick" for revenge (and gold) that lures our protagonist to have sex with an unexpected partner.
Name: Diana
Type: Supporting Role
Gender: Female
Ethnicities: NaN#
Payment: No
Gender: Female
Ethnicities: NaN#

Details: A sexually confident young woman with many admirers who's able to use her wide experience of manipulating men to her advantage.
Name: Lafew (Dumaine in our version)
Type: Supporting Role
Playing Age: 30- 70
Ethnicities NaN#
Payment: No
Details: A senior member of the Royal household he is equally trusted by the king and his foot soldiers. He is old school and a stickler for old fashioned fair-play and decency. Nevertheless, he finds himself entangled in a number of tricks and traps.
